Both toolkits have a different focus. Use the charts below to select the toolkit that has the best fit with your school's current area of development. You may have identified this in your school charter through the planning and reporting process, or from an ERO review.

Aim

To support schools in an ongoing journey towards building a safe and caring climate.

Key Idea

A safe and caring school climate is an essential foundation for learning for all students.

Use this toolkit if your school wants to...
  • improve social wellbeing and relationships for all
  • create a safer climate that deters aggressive and bullying behaviour
Education policy and priority focus

NAG 5 requires each school board of trustees to provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students.

This toolkit can support schools to focus on all students as well explore the experiences and perspectives of a particular group (e.g., Māori learners, Pasifika learners, boys or girls).

Inclusive Practices Self-Review Toolkit

To support schools in an ongoing journey towards building inclusive practices for all students.

Key Idea

Learning is supported when all students are enabled to take part in all aspects of school life

Use this toolkit if your school wants to...
  • think critically about, and improve the way your school includes all students, and in particular, those who have extra support needs
Education policy and priority focus

NAG 1 requires all boards to identify students with special education needs and develop teaching and learning strategies, goals and procedures to meet their needs.

This toolkit can support schools to focus on all students as well as explore the experiences and perspectives of learners who have extra support needs.

Tool Focus

Staff

Staff survey aimed at teachers but can be completed by all staff and related professionals who work with the school (e.g., RTLB)

Students

A Student Survey that can be used by all students, but has been designed particularly for students who have extra support needs (ages 9-20). Students can be assisted to complete the survey.

Parent, whānau and caregiver
  • Survey for all parents, whānau and caregivers - including parents, whānau and caregivers of students with extra support needs
  • Suggestions for involving parents, whānau and caregivers in the review process
